Facebook has filed an appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union in its case against Max Schrems, Reuters reports. The court would rule on whether standard contractual clauses and the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield agreement were legal after the Irish High Court referred the case to them earlier this year. Lawyer Paul Gallagher said one of the reasons for the appeal was to decide whether the EU General Data Protection Regulation would render the case irrelevant. Facebook is seeking an accelerated referral to see if Ireland’s Supreme Court would accept their appeal in a matter of days, rather than months, a move Irish Data Protection Commissioner Lawyer Michael Collins said would only be delaying the answer to an important issue for EU citizens.
