South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission’s dispute mediation panel recommended Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms compensate users over a breach of consent, Sambad Group reports. Under the recommendation, Facebook would pay 300,000 won, or $256.70, to each of the 181 users requesting damages. The PIPC fined Facebook 6.7 billion won in November 2020 for sharing the personal data of at least 3.3 million of its 18 million Korean users with third parties without consent between May 2012 and June 2018.
