The European Parliament committees on Legal Affairs and Internal Market and Consumer Protection called on the European Commission to address shortcomings within the online ecosystem as it prepares to present the Digital Services Act package by the end of the year. In a pair of "legislative initiative reports," the committees want more transparent data collection, less intrusive targeted ads and more restrictions around harmful content. A debate will be held Oct. 19 to discuss these issues, with a vote scheduled for the following day.
