In an effort to better understand the privacy and cybersecurity risks that come with smart cars, the European Commission appointed a collection of multi stakeholder groups to conduct various studies on the subject, Hogan Lovells reports. In December 2015, C-ITS Working Group 6 studied different ways smart car-gleaned data could be appropriately viewed, with the agency ultimately finding “three technical solutions for data sharing platforms,” such as an in-car “external data server platform,” the report states. The Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation Working Group 4 emphasized the necessity of privacy impact reports and privacy by design in a separate study. “It will be critical that any certification standards developed under European data protection work streams are consistent with the standards that are emerging,” the report states.
