EU negotiators approved a directive to protect whistleblowers who report violations of EU law, including fraud, tax evasion or data breaches, DW News reports. Currently, whistleblowers are handled through individual countries judicial systems. The directive will establish a three-tier reporting system and forbid “all forms of retaliation” against whistleblowers. "Whistleblowers deserve support and protection from the moment they decide to blow the whistle," the European Commission's Justice and Consumers Department said. "Great news that we have approval for EU-wide rules on whistleblower protection."
