Negotiations on the free flow of data could be considered as part of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), but only after an agreement on the EU’s data protection regulation is reached, EurActiv reports. That’s according to Juhan Lepassar, head of Digital Commissioner Andrus Ansip’s cabinet, who added that the EU is “on the same page as the U.S. theoretically on the issue of data flows.” Until now, EU officials have said they want data kept off the table in negotiations, so Lepassar’s statement indicates a shift. U.S. businesses hope data flows will be brought into the discussion in order to maintain their business models, the report states.
