The Wall Street Journal reports on the concerns European Union antitrust regulators have with the ways companies use big data. Regulators are looking at whether large tech companies such as Google and Facebook use big data in order to negatively impact the prospects of competition, and if the companies are forcing customers to turn over their personal information. “In some areas, these data are extremely valuable,” said European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager. “They can foreclose the market — they can give the parties that have them immense business opportunities that are not available to others.” (Registration may be required to access this story.)
