The Electronic Privacy Information Center has revised a complaint filed against U.S. President Donald Trump’s “election integrity” commission, accusing the panel of violating federal law by gathering large quantities of data on registered U.S. voters, Newsweek reports. Furthermore, EPIC questions the panel’s ability to safeguard the data and use it purely for research purposes. The Trump administration has defended the panel by stating it is not a federal agency and, as such, is not required to perform a privacy impact assessment to demonstrate that it does not violate privacy rights. EPIC contends that since the panel operates within a federal agency, as part of the General Services Administration, it is required to prove the data collection does not breach any privacy rights.
