The Electronic Privacy Information Center asked the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals to toss out Google’s $5.5 million class-action settlement, Media Post reports. While the settlement saw a donation to six schools and nonprofits to focus on online privacy, as well as a payment of $1.9 million to lawyers, Safari users received no monetary settlement. In its request, EPIC states,"Under the terms, Google is allowed to continue its unlawful conduct and the class members receive no monetary relief," adding, “The lower court should not have approved this settlement without first conducting a rigorous analysis into whether the allocated ... funds will actually benefit the class."
