The Tampa Bay Times reports the U.S. Department of Education opened an investigation into potential Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act violations stemming from data shared between a school district and law enforcement in Pasco County, Florida. In a statement, the ED said it was looking into "potential non-consensual disclosure of personally identifiable information from student education records." The probe follows an analysis from the Future of Privacy Forum alleging violations, which helped lead to a request from U.S. Rep. Robert Scott, D-Va., for an investigation.
