European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiórowski published his support for the European Commission’s proposed Anti-Money Laundering legislative package, but suggested improvements to protect personal data. Wiewiórowski said while the proposal takes a risk-based approach to assessing whether individuals present a money-laundering risk, intrusion into individuals’ privacy must be minimized. He also advised including categories of personal data that may be processed within the proposed package.
