The European Data Protection Supervisor announced it has developed open-source software tools designed to help organizations discover evidence of personal data processing on a website. The tools use automation to determine whether a site uses cookies or sends requests to third parties. Data protection officers, website controllers and end users can examine the findings to see which information is stored and transferred when an individual visits a website. “This EDPS tool allows laypersons after a brief introduction to gather evidence on personal data processing operations of websites using a reproducible, reliable, and fast method,” the EDPS said in the announcement. “No third-party cloud service is involved to gather evidence.”
