The European Data Protection Supervisor issued its opinion on a proposal from the European Commission to suspend provisions in the ePrivacy Directive to help stop the spread of child abuse images online. The EDPS advises against the adoption of the proposal stating it would be a violation of privacy rights and added it "wishes to underline that the issues at stake are not specific to the fight against child abuse but to any initiative aiming at collaboration of the private sector for law enforcement purposes."
