The European Data Protection Supervisor issued an opinion on the European Commission’s asset confiscation proposal. The European Commission’s proposal is intended to help law enforcement in EU states “identify, freeze, manage, and confiscate assets obtained through” organized crime. EDPS Wojciech Wiewiorowski said he supported the proposal because it “explicitly underlines the particular importance that the protection of personal data, according to EU law, is ensured."
