The office of the European Data Protection Supervisor announced a recent analysis of EU institutions' websites revealed seven out of ten websites had data protection issues. The EDPS inspection reviewed the data protection compliance of various public web services under EU Regulation 2018/1725, the ePrivacy Directive and EDPS guidelines on web services. Nonconsensual third-party tracking and the use of web trackers without visitor consent were among the issues found during the inspection. EDPS Giovanni Buttarelli said most inspected institutions have rectified their compliance issues. "The responses to this remote inspection have been reassuring," Buttarelli said. "The EU institutions responsible for the most important websites have informed us of technical measures that they have implemented to significantly reduce the risks to security and privacy that were detected in our inspection."
