The European Data Protection Supervisor announced it closed its investigation into the European Commission's use of NationBuilder, a U.S-based political campaigning company. NationBuilder processed personal data on behalf of the commission for the 2019 EU parliamentary elections. The EDPS reprimanded the commission and offered recommendations for it to implement. The commission agreed to the recommendations, ended its contract with NationBuilder and committed to leading "by example in the protection of personal data during the next EU Parliamentary elections campaign in 2024."
