In a blog post, European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiórowski discussed the challenges and opportunities presented to the EU by artificial intelligence and facial recognition. While detailing conversations at an EDPS-hosted AI workshop Feb. 13, Wiewiórowski said workshop participants concluded "the GDPR is technology neutral, contains broad, flexible and adaptable definitions and does not specifically address AI." Wiewiórowski added that supervisory authorities "need to fully apply and enforce existing laws in order to identify potential gaps" where further AI regulation may be necessary.
