European Data Protection Supervisor Giovanni Buttarelli and German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Ulrich Kelber spoke in front of more than 300 attendees for a panel discussion titled “Data Protection and Competitiveness in the Digital Age.” Buttarelli and Kelber spoke about the potential for more cooperation between regulators and the challenges technology poses to data protection efforts. The pair agreed the importance of the level of data protection seen in the EU General Data Protection Regulation should be the global benchmark for the development of new tech.
