The European Data Protection Board adopted a letter responding to the European Commission's voluntary cookie pledge initiative in its most recent plenary meeting. The Commission previously requested the EDPB consider if any elements of the draft pledge were "contrary to the (General Data Protection Regulation) and the ePrivacy Directive." While the EDPB generally approved the pledge as drafted, the body recommended businesses not ask consent to collect user personal data for a full year once consent was declined to reduce "cookie fatigue."
