The European Data Protection Board expressed concerns about proposed legislative developments that would affect the Belgian Data Protection Authority. Specifically, the EDPB is concerned that a draft law would “strengthen parliamentary oversight” over the DPA. In a letter to the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, the Belgian prime minister and the Belgian state secretary, the EDPB wrote the EU General Data Protection Regulation “specifically requires that each supervisory authority shall act with complete independence in performing its tasks and exercising its powers (Article 52(1) GDPR).”
