In an announcement of items addressed at its 18th plenary meeting, the European Data Protection Board offered a statement on the privacy implications of company mergers, specifically noting the deal between Google and Fitbit. While reminding parties of their obligations to the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the EDPB urged merging companies to "mitigate possible risks to the rights to privacy and data protection before notifying the merger to the European Commission." The EDPB also adopted consistency mechanism guidelines in line with Article 46.2(a) and 46.3(b) of the GDPR and announced its GDPR evaluation contribution.
