A study conducted by the Dutch data protection authority, Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, found data protection officers function well within health care organizations. In response to the findings of the 11 hospitals analyzed, AP Board Member Monique Verdier said a DPO within a hospital can identify how well the organization has complied with privacy laws, which is beneficial to the agency. The AP offered recommendations for both board members and DPOs to help the latter in their position. The agency recommends board members should detail the DPO's role within an internal privacy policy, while it advises DPOs to maintain a strong balance between their advisory and supervisory roles.
