The Guardian reports a Dutch court has ruled the country’s government must stop an automated surveillance program used to detect welfare fraud. The risk indication system gathers data on citizens’ employment history and personal debt and benefit records. The information is run through an algorithm to determine who is at a higher risk of commitment fraud. The court ruled the system violates human rights, does not have the proper privacy safeguard in place and was not transparent in how it worked.
