Legislation drafted in Australia would allow personal data sharing between government agencies, ABC News reports. Under the Data Availability and Transparency Bill, the National Data Commissioner would oversee data sharing across the public sector, and public sector information could also be shared with other organizations, including universities and businesses. Data could be shared to deliver government services, help develop government policies, or for research and development. It would not be shareable for law enforcement purposes or targeted commercial marketing.
