Following a complaint raised by Digital Rights Ireland on behalf of Irish Times Columnist Karlin Lillington, Ireland’s Data Protection Commission said it is investigating “potential breaches” of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, The Irish Times reports. The complaint alleged that the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection carried out “serious interference” with the role of its data protection officer when it ordered changes to the department’s online privacy policy without first discussing the change with its DPO. Records obtained under the Freedom of Information Act revealed that the DPO would not have agreed to the changes. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
