A system to monitor passengers' mobile device wireless Internet connections for a crowd control system at Helsinki Airport may cause privacy concerns, Bloomberg BNA reports. Although Finland’s airport authority has said the plan “wouldn't collect personal data, the data protection officials said privacy regulators will be closely watching the system for violations of relevant data protection laws,” the report states. The technology is to be fully installed by the end of the year, and Finland's Data Protection Ombudsman Reijo Aarnio has said his office is examining the system, the report states, adding Norway’s Data Protection Authority has weighed in that any monitoring must be voluntary.
