The Washington Post reports the U.S. Department of Justice, under former President Donald Trump’s administration, obtained journalists’ phone records and attempted to obtain email records related to reporting on Russia’s role in the 2016 election. Three Post reporters were notified May 3 the DOJ had subpoenaed records associated with their listed work, home or cellphone numbers from April to July 2017, including incoming and outgoing calls and call length. Acting Executive Editor Cameron Barr said The Post is “deeply troubled.”
