Five years after a digitized smart surveillance system was implemented in Mangaluru, India, new cases of malaria have dropped by 83%, Medical Xpress reports. The system assisted with early reporting, surveillance of specific incidents, documentation of treatment and measures to stop transmission. "Digital surveillance data is real-time that can be retrieved anytime which was not possible with the manual system. This device is a game-changer in this direction," Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Malaria Research Head Susanta Ghosh said.
