The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced its plan to propose expanded biometric data collection capabilities for Customs and Border Protection, The Associated Press reports. The DHS proposal will focus on creating a new regulation that will increase the "authorities and methods" for collecting data, including voice recordings and facial images for identification purposes. Acting Deputy DHS Secretary Ken Cuccinelli called the proposal "responsible governing," while Migration Policy Institute Analyst Sarah Pierce warned the proposal represents "a remarkable expansion of surveillance."
