A U.S. House Oversight Committee meeting turned contentious yesterday, The Hill reports, as lawmakers questioned Department of Education Chief Information Officer Danny Harris about measures he has taken to protect citizen data. “After what we’ve learned this morning,” said Rep. John Mica, R-Fla, the American people could be forgiven if they thought CIO stood for “chaos, ineptness and outrage.” Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, expressed similar sentiments: “Mr. Harris has served as the chief information officer since 2008, and by virtually every metric he is failing.” For his part, Harris noted recent improvements, including the increased use of two-factor authentication and an integrated project team.
