The U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit released “responsible artificial intelligence” guidelines, required to be used by third-party developers building AI systems for the military, MIT Technology Review reports. The guidelines cover planning, development and deployment, and include procedures for identifying users of the technology and those who could be harmed by it, as well as potential harms and how to avoid them. Defense Innovation Unit Advisor Bryce Goodman said these are the first DOD or government guidelines “that go into this level of detail.”
