In guidance provided by Office of Management and Budget Director Shaun Donovan, the U.S. federal government has now defined a “major incident” in the cyber world, reports NextGov. Has a major incident occurred? Agencies must ask themselves the type of information lost, whether it is recoverable, the functional impact on the agency and whether 10,000 or more records have been lost or, if the number is smaller, whether the records are “of special importance.” Meanwhile, InfoSecurity reports on a new Ponemon survey that found 65 percent of respondents believe good threat intelligence would have prevented a recent breach.
