According to a Freedom of Information request, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration did not employ any privacy impact assessments before using surveillance technology purchased from the Italian-based company, the Hacking Team, Motherboard reports. In addition to requesting any PIAs, Motherboard also requested whether the agency used any privacy threshold analysis or initial privacy assessments. "As a result of our query, we are unable to locate any records responsive to your request," the DEA stated. A DEA spokesman also confirmed the agency had not completed a PIA before using the Hacking Team's Remote Control System.
