Conservative MP David Davis has taken his name off a legal challenge to Theresa May’s data privacy rules, POLITICO reports. Davis has been highly critical of May’s 2014 data retention law, requiring telecommunication companies to store data on customers for law enforcement investigations. While Davis has signed off on other challenges to the law, he recently removed his name from the case following the opinion of EU Advocate General Henrik Saugmandsgaard Øe. “As a government Cabinet Minister, David Davis has decided to remove his name from this case, in keeping with Cabinet collective responsibility. This was a decision for David Davis,” said a representative for the Department for Exiting the European Union.
