A new data protection ordinance has been placed in front of the Chicago City Council, Hunton Andrews Kurth Privacy & Information Security Law Blog reports. Under the Personal Data Collection and Protection Ordinance, businesses will be required to obtain consent to use or sell citizens’ personal data, notify affected citizens following a data breach, gather consent to use geolocation data from mobile apps, offer notifications to mobile device users for location services and require data brokers to register with the city. Meanwhile, Louisiana has recently updated its data breach notification law.
