In April and May in the U.S. alone, there were almost 2,000 mergers and acquisitions. In the Asia-Pacific region, mergers and acquisitions totaled $367.7 billion in the first half of 2015, and during the same period, activity increased by 37 percent in Europe. FireEye reports on how data loss incidents at organizations can significantly change the value of an acquisition target. For example, a cybersecurity incident could mean a target’s intellectual property is no longer theirs alone. “Once a breach occurs, competitors could already have the most valuable data and it could impact the value of acquiring the company,” the report states.
