The Family Planning NSW website announced a data breach exposed the personal information of up to 8,000 clients and alerted clients via email of the cyberattack, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. The cyberattack compromised data of clients who had contacted the office via the website over the past two and a half years to make appointments or give feedback. FPNSW Chief Executive Adjunct Professor Ann Brassil said the attack was financially motivated and that hackers demanded $15,000 in bitcoin. Brassil said, “We hope the public will continue to trust us with their healthcare needs,” adding that the website would be back online after an external security review and internal testing.
