The Wall Street Journal reports the threats to the real world from the cyber world are at an all-time high and suggests that it is changing the landscape of international conflict. James Lewis, a former state department official and cybersecurity specialist at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said, “A new kind of war is upon us, one characterized by coercion rather than the use of force.” Meanwhile, many U.S. state and local governments continue to use security software from Kaspersky Lab, even though the U.S. General Services Administration has removed the company from its list of approved vendors. Though no proof has been disclosed, there is concern that the Russian-based company's software can be used as a backdoor into U.S. networks for cyberespionage purposes.
