Following the insurrection on Capitol Hill, cybersecurity professionals said any electronic device that was exposed to rioters should be considered compromised. Members of the mob that stormed Capitol Hill accessed an unlocked computer belonging to U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., said a laptop was stolen from his office. “Certainly it is likely that hardware has gone missing from the Capitol complex when you have an uncontrolled entry,” Demand Progress Policy Director Daniel Schuman said.
