Adweek reports on the privacy implications of the upcoming merger between CVS and Aetna. The health insurer’s CEO Mark Bertolini said technological advances will be one of the ways the merger will affect health care. While new technologies may come to the forefront, the companies will need to be wary of privacy laws, especially given how Aetna’s business model focuses on examining large amounts of information. Any data sharing between Aetna and CVS could be impacted by privacy rules within HIPAA, meaning the companies will have to navigate around those laws before building profiles on their customers.
