Government documents reveal the Canada Revenue Agency suffered 2,338 privacy breaches within a 21-month span, affecting more than 80,000 Canadians, Global News reports. The documents listed breaches occurring across all government departments, with the CRA facing the most incidents since September 2016. Of the 2,338 breaches, 33 affected enough citizens to require the agency to report them to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. A number of the more serious breaches involved employees conducting unauthorized searches of databases, and between the start of 2016 and the end of 2017, 25 CRA employees were fired “due to failure to secure personal information or due to unauthorized access or disclosure of personal information.”
