A U.S. federal court rejected Equifax’s request to dismiss claims that it violated New York consumer protection law in failing to protect consumer data, resulting in a 2017 data breach affecting more than 145 million consumers, Bloomberg Law reports. The court ruled plaintiff Matthew Weiss’ claim could move forward under the state’s deceptive acts and practices law. It sided with Equifax on claims that the credit-reporting company violated the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, finding Weiss’ allegations “inadequate.”
