Courthouse News Service reports the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in Illinois has ruled a $35 billion class-action suit against Facebook for improper use of facial recognition tech can advance. The original case was brought forward in 2015 with claims the social network did not obtain consent or provide details to users about how long their facial data would be stored when it started mapping their faces in 2011. Facebook has argued there were no grounds to sue because the mapping did not cause any personal harm. U.S. Circuit Judge Sandra Ikuta wrote in the court's decision that Facebook's tactics "invades an individual’s private affairs and concrete interests."
