Earlier this week, India’s Supreme Court once again extended the deadline for the mandatory linking of Aadhaar numbers to government-sponsored programs, Reuters reports. The Supreme Court had previously extended the deadline to March 31 but will not announce a new deadline until after it is finished hearing arguments on the legitimacy of the federal government’s demand to link the service to other programs. Headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, a five-judge constitutional court found that “The government cannot insist on mandatory Aadhaar.”
