Users’ personal data could be at the center of the fight against big tech, The New York Times reports. Earlier this year, Germany’s competition authority found Facebook violated the country’s laws by coercing people into giving up their personal data. German Federal Cartel Office President Andreas Mundt argues that tech giants don’t need to be broken up as some American lawmakers have called for. Instead, he thinks “governments should limit their ability to collect data” and that approach will work similarly to a breakup. Meanwhile, Apple’s Transparency Report revealed China and Russia were responsible for the majority of App Store takedown requests last year, Venture Beat reports.
