Following a pair of conferences focusing on finance and technology, an article for Fortune explores the claim that people may pretend to value financial data privacy more than they do. The authors write this sentiment was echoed at both events. Speaking at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference, RBC Capital Markets Lead Internet Analyst Mark Mahaney pointed to a misperception of public opinion surrounding the importance of privacy and said, “As we keep going through this cycle, we’ll see fewer and fewer people concerned about privacy.” At Fortune’s Brainstorm Finance conference, Accenture North America Financial Services Senior Managing Director and Digital Lead Mike Abbott noted he too believed public concern over privacy is on the decline.
