Parents, educators and advocacy groups are raising concerns about the monitoring software included in school-issued devices, Wired reports. The software included in millions of devices given to students during the pandemic, "created a new digital divide" that may impact certain groups of students by surveilling their activities throughout the school day. The students are, "more likely those attending lower-income schools, who are going to be more reliant on school-issued devices and therefore be subject to more surveillance and tracking than their peers, who can essentially afford to opt out," Center for Democracy and Technology Elizabeth Laird said.
