The Guardian reports Australian human rights groups are sounding the alarm over potential privacy issues connected to various COVID-19 quarantine applications. The Human Rights Law Centre and Digital Rights Watch raised red flags with state and federal government over how apps use biometric information from facial recognition scans and location data from users' mobile devices. "Without robust and specific protections in place, the information collected by home quarantine apps may later be used for secondary purposes unrelated to public health," the groups wrote in a letter to officials.
