According to Consumer Reports, law enforcement agencies have started pilot programs to give victims of domestic abuse a doorbell camera, specifically a Ring, to use as an extra level of protection. Advocates for domestic violence victims and privacy advocates raised concerns about the project, with advocates saying they don’t want survivors captured on camera as they walk through the neighborhood. Privacy advocates are also concerned about the data being shared with law enforcement agencies and if the consumer is aware what data is being shared.
