Professionals have called for authorities to address privacy concerns around Asia-Pacific smart cities, Reuters reports. As smart cities rise in prominence in the area, United Nations Special Rapporteur Philip Alston warned there is “a grave risk of stumbling zombie-like into a digital welfare dystopia” by letting data and technologies power such environments. The concerns come right as Google and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific jointly prepared a report on models that leverage artificial intelligence to improve public services in the Asia-Pacific region.
